Spray cleaner/lube didn't help in my case, replacement did. CTS, Alpha, All Parts, Switchcraft, etc., anything's an improvement. Shoot it sparsely into the pot while turning (don't overspray). Try to keep it away from your finish if possible. WD-40 will do in a pinch, but electricians/techs carry & use tuner cleaner.
